For the design of this commission, the customer allowed me complete freedom -- in fact, she wanted the finished rings to be a surprise!  The colour combination of frosty blue aqua, diamonds and white gold worked extremely well.  The diamonds are set into the edge thickness of the engagement ring, creating an effect of brilliant white emitting from within the metal.  The aquamarine is recessed on an angle in this design, which both protects it from harsh wear and allows light to enter from below and above.
