Sapphire Ring
Sapphire Ring

The design of this ring is an exercise in smooth continuation of line. A single piece of metal encircles the stone then swings down and around the finger.

When worn, the sapphire appears as if floating above the hand. Light easily enters the stone from above and below.

The stone itself is an exceptionally beautiful blue sapphire from Ceylon.

Raw materials: a 14 k. white gold square rod, and a blue Ceylon sapphire.

The metal within the stone setting is accurately carved to “seat” the stone, and the rim is undercut to allow the metal to fold / flow just over the edge of the stone.
The finished piece. All evidence of tapping the metal while setting the stone is filed away, and the overall piece is given its final polish.
