Three Diamond Ring in 14 K. Y.
Three Diamond Ring in 14 K. Y.

This ring was made using three diamonds from an old engagement ring. Two diamonds are the same size and the third is larger.

The design places all three stones in the ends of heavy gold wires that bypass one another at right angles. The resulting sculptural form is direct, and its three-dimensional interest invites investigation.

Raw materials: heavy 14 k. yellow gold wire (slightly wider in diameter than the largest diamond), and the old ring containing three diamonds.
Bending is under way. The thickness of the heavy wire toward both ends is tapered and reduced in diameter to slightly wider than that of the two smaller diamonds.

The length of tapered heavy wire is cut exactly in half. The thickest end of each half is still slightly wider than the largest diamond.
Two halves bent further around.

Two halves bent fully around. The surfaces shown in contact will then be faced off half way through.
The two facing surfaces have been filed half way through (together their ends become the same circle as the original round heavy wire), and the two halves are soldered together.

The three circular ends are drilled and the stones are seated in preparation to be bezel set.
The finished piece. The diamonds are set, and all surfaces are smoothed and polished.
